Before I used source control, I would hardcode the last modified date in a comment in the code. Any file I touch now, I always delete that info since the repository tracks it all for me.

Anyway, I was going through a particular line, and found this comical typo:

Date last modificatied: 5/15/2002.

Lol, I must have been coding in my sleep there.

I love funny lists about stuff in the programming realm, like the Levels of JavaScript Knowledge list I stumbled across with Jenny’s help.

Well, here’s a great one about a pet peeve of mine: What code DOESN’T do in real life (that it does in the movies). Movies almost always portray email clients, the web, app source code, and other computer elements very differently from the way they really look. I know it’s an effort to make these things look more interesting, but seriously, some of the stuff they’ve come up with is pretty wild.

This article points out some of the stupid cinematic effects Hollywood sometimes applies to code. Warning: The author’s language is needlessly inappropriate at times. But if you can get past that, it’s a great laugh.

This is pretty funny. Apple contracts various companies to manufacture their iPods, and apparently one company mistakenly allowed a situation where the iPods were being manufactured and released with the RavMonE.exe virus, effectively serving as Typhoid Mary devices for any Windows customers.

Apple is taking steps to correct the matter, and apparently it is an extremely small percentage (less than 1%) of affected iPods.

In the Information Week article “Apple Says Shipped iPods Carrying Computer Virus“, statements from both Apple and Microsoft are quoted. Allow me to translate and paraphrase.

Apple: “We’re sorry for shipping our iPod with a Windows virus. Gee, it’s too bad Windows is so bad with viruses.”

Microsoft: “Yeah, but you’re stupid for letting the virus get on your product, even if, erm, it doesn’t affect your own OS. Just watch it in the future, will ya?”

The irony of it all has me cracking up. After waiting weeks for my 404 article to get put on CFDJ, it gets printed just shortly after my hosting company moves my account to a new server…and forgot to migrate my existing custom error handler settings. So I had an article about 404 forwarding with examples that came up with 404 errors.

All is well now. Heh. Heaven forbid I have a moment of pride without a humbling moment immediately thereafter.

This is just too funny. I don’t know which part is more funny: That the dog ate almost $500 worth of euros, or that the owner of the dog will actually be able to get the money back! This is a great story.
